It is the responsibility of the employee to see that City vehicles are used for City business only. Employees who are assigned vehicles shall take the most direct route to and from their homes. City vehicles may only be assigned to be taken home by employees who reside within the City limits unless it is determined by the department director to be in the best interest of the City to allow employees residing outside the city limits to take a vehicle home. Employees who are assigned vehicles to take home will be required to pay appropriate income taxes. Within the confines of the workday, personal use of a City vehicle may be approved subject to departmental rules and regulations. Any City employee who drives a City-owned vehicle must have a valid drivers license that must be on or accompany the person when driving such a vehicle. Seat belts must be worn at all times while operating or riding in a City vehicle.
If the employee has an accident in a City-owned vehicle, the Police Department must be notified immediately and then the employee's supervisor must be notified. This should be done regardless of how minor the accident may be.
All traffic violations are the personal responsibility of the operator.
Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs are prohibited in City vehicles at all time.
