Minutes, October 10, 2005

Present: Reta Cosby, Beth Schultz, Barb Watkins

Barb reported that she had met with Dave Corliss and the 501c3 process is moving forward. The EIN application will be finished shortly and the final stage will likely be completed by the end of 2005.

She also said she hadn’t heard from Greg Hurg regarding doing a River City Weekly interview with Debi Gliori on the One Book Program.

Joyce Steiner is working with Mindie Padget on the LJW feature article on this project.

We discussed the mayor’s proclamation for Kansas Reads and considered adding a clause or sentence about the HCC-Library partnership.

The focus of this meeting was on plans for the Nov. 5 workshop, 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  at the Public Library that Linda Clay will lead and Reta will coordinate. Reta and Linda have several exciting ideas about  how to interest children in reading and how to present children’s books.

Beth and Reta are drafting a letter to go out on the “children under umbrella” letterhead to our project partners—senior citizens’ residences and daycare centers. We will send the mayor’s proclamation along with the letter.

At our next meeting, Oct 24, 4:00 p.m.  at Plymouth, we will discuss our possible goals and directions for the future and will enlist group members to attend the Library expansion sessions.

We will also formulate a response to Bruce Flanders’ request to know more about our space needs and funding plans.
