Public Works Storm Water requested bids for a track excavator. Their present excavator, Unit 375, is a 12 year old Komatsu PC 150 and is at the end of its service life. Unit 375 was purchased used.
The Hyundai from Victor L Phillips does not meet specifications. It has an undersized alternator but more importantly it has British Standard Parallel Pipe hydraulic fittings. SAE or Metric fittings were called for in the specifications. By buying the Hyundai it will be very difficult to make in house repairs due to these fittings.
The alternate bid from Road Builders, a used Komatsu, meets all specifications and is available for immediate delivery. Our maintenance staff already has training in maintaining Komatsu equipment. This purchase was approved in the 2005 budgeting process.
Recommendation Action:
Approve bid from Road Builders for one (1) track excavator in the amount of $82,469.00
