Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:   The need for family caregivers is growing and we are blessed to live in a time when medicine and technology have helped us to live longer; and

WHEREAS:   According to the National Family Caregivers Association, over 50 million people are family caregivers in any given year and more than 25 million family caregivers support our healthcare system by providing care that is equivalent of a part-time job; and

WHEREAS:   Family caregivers deserve our lasting gratitude and respect; and

WHEREAS:   National Caregivers Month is a nationally recognized month that seeks to draw attention to the many challenges facing family caregivers;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dennis “Boog” Highberger, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the month of November to be

“NATIONAL FAMILY CAREGIVERS MONTH”

and urge all citizens to honor the many contributions that family caregivers make to the quality of our national life.
