MEMORANDUM
TO: Mike Wildgen, City Manager
THRU: Victor Torres, Director of Neighborhood Resources Department
FROM: Julie Wyatt, Environmental Inspector
RE: 429 Indiana Street
DATE: October 24, 2005
The referenced property has been inspected and found to be in violation of City Code, specifically the 1997 Uniform Building Code Section 102 and the 1997 Uniform Housing Code chapters 4 and 10. The structure is in a state of disrepair and neglect. While the structure is currently secure from entry, due to the extent of overall deterioration of the structural and foundation components, the structure needs to be repaired or removed to alleviate safety concerns.
The owners of record are: Roland R Mumford, Madeline Mumford
2525 Bremer Drive, Lawrence KS 66049
The property taxes are delinquent for: 2000 through 2004.
The owners of record are deceased. The daughter-in-law (Kris Kessinger) has been in contact with me regarding the status of this property and the estate. The family is in the process of resolving the estate issues.
Due to the length of time that this has been ongoing, at this time I am requesting that a resolution be adopted setting a public hearing date of December 20, 2005. The hearing will be to discuss the status of the property and structure and to consider adopting an order to remove or repair the structure within a specified time. Failure of the owner to comply would result in the City taking action to remove the blighted/unsafe structure.
Attached are a chronology of my contact with this property, inspection report and pictures of the subject structure. Please let me know if you have questions concerning this. Thank you.
