Currently HNTB is completing the North Lawrence Drainage Study. Recommendations from this study for improvements to the drainage system will be identified. The City will direct the specifics (materials, size of piping, etc.) of those improvements to be included within the plans for the reconstruction of the intersection.
Selection Process: Eight firms submitted qualification statements from which four companies were interviewed. Firms were evaluated based on the following criteria: commitment of staff, ability to perform within timeframe, past performance, accessibility of firm, previous experience with similar work, work commitment that could limit performance, firm’s familiarity with project area, film’s knowledge of the project and procedures, firm’s consideration of project problems/issues, communication, ability to work with public, professionalism, and overhead costs. |

Project Details: Prepare design/concept memo, design and preparation of bidding/construction documents for the reconstruction of the intersection of 2nd Street and Locust Street.
Project Funding: This project will be funded 80% by the State and 20% by the City for construction. Engineering, easements, and right-of-way are paid 100% by the City. The City’s share will be funded with bonds. The preliminary construction cost estimate is $1,500,000; the City’s share is 20% ($300,000), plus engineering ($231,822), for a total of $531,822.
Action Request: Request approval from the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to enter into an Engineering Agreement with TranSystems, Inc. in an amount of $231,822 for the engineering design of the intersection of N. 2nd Street and Locust Street.
Approve Resolution 6620 authorizing the issuance of bonds in the amount of $240,000 for this project.
