Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the May 8, 2007 meeting:
Installation of Back-Up Generators for F/M #2, F/M #3, and City Hall
Project History. The Fire Department received a grant from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant – US Department of Homeland Security for the purchase and installation of emergency generators for two stations. Additionally, staff designated equipment reserve funds for an emergency generator for the information systems operations at City Hall. A Request for Proposals (RFP) was developed and three firms were asked to present their scope of services and provide details regarding their pricing elements.
Project Status. Three firms were asked to present their RFP’s. After review, Vertex Engineering and Utility Services, Inc were chosen to perform the work. They were also the lowest bidder at $162,265 for all three generators
Project Details. This project will include setting natural gas generators at F/M #2 and 3 which will automatically back-up the entire building during a power failure. City Hall will have a natural gas generator set on the roof. It will provide back-up power for the main computers, phone system, and the sewage ejector pumps. There will be room to add other areas or improvement in the future.
Project Funding. This project will be funded as follows:
· $73,696 – Assistance to Firefighters Grant
· $88,869 – Equipment Reserve Fund
Action Request. Public Works staff requests approval from the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Vertex Engineering & Utility Services, Inc. in the amount of $162,265 for the installation of three automatic natural gas back-up generators.
