GPS DATA COLLECTORS AND REFERENCE STATION UPGRADE
UTILITIES DEPARTMENT / PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The City of Lawrence, Kansas budgeted in 2007 to upgrade existing GPS equipment for Utilities and Public Works Departments. This purchase includes 3 new field ready data collectors and an upgrade of the Trimble reference station located atop City Hall. The recommended equipment will increase productivity of infrastructure data collection in the field. The upgrade to the Trimble reference station in conjunction with the new GPS data collectors enables the departments to use a broader satellite network for faster data collection and minimize equipment downtime. This broader network will eliminate the current limit on data collection due to satellite availability. The current Public Works GPS data collection equipment is obsolete and replacement parts are no longer available. The departments will use the recommended equipment to collect data for collection system capacity analysis, inventory infrastructure assets and survey for preliminary design of in-house engineering projects.
The Utilities Department portion will be funded from its general capital improvement fund and the Public Works portion was budgeted as part of the 2007 Budget account number 001-3100-571-6008.
