RE: Utility
Department Meter Change out Program
Please include the following
item on the City Commission agenda item for consideration at their May 27, 2008 meeting:
Project History: The
Utilities Department changes water meters at the age of 15 years, due to interdepartmental testing that has found that at
15 years meters start to lose accuracy.
The
Department is also re evaluating the type of meter used for certain
applications. In the past turbo meters
were the typical meter used in commercial application no matter what the
demand. Technology has changed and the
Utility Department is in the process of changing from turbo meters to compound
meters. Compound meters begin
registering at ¾ gallon per minute rather than 4 gallons per meter as the turbo
meter does.
This
is a sole source purchase. Midwest
Meters is the only company we can purchase these meters from due to a franchise
agreement with the manufacturer.
Action Request: The Utilities Department is seeking approval
from the City Commission to authorize
the City Manager to execute a purchase order with Midwest Meter in the amount
of $42,733.00 to order 74 water meters so they can complete the
2008 Meter Change Out Program.
Thank you for your assistance. Please advise if you
have any questions.
