Dear Mr. Minor:

The Lawrence City Commission will convene in the City Commission Chambers, 1^st Floor, City Hall, 6 East 6^th Street, Lawrence, Kansas on September 9, 2008 at 6:35 p.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard, for the purpose of conducting a public hearing regarding a request for a distance restriction waiver.  Mr. Paul Werner, on behalf of Oread Inn, LLC, is requesting a waiver of the distance restriction in the City Code that prohibits the sale or serving of alcoholic liquor within 400 feet from a school (K through Grade 12) or church.  Oread Inn, LLC is seeking to open a hotel at 1200 Oread Avenue and is planning to sell alcoholic liquor in designated areas of the hotel.  Pursuant to City Code, all schools and churches within 400 feet of the primary public entrance of the proposed location are required to receive written notice of the public hearing date at least 30 days prior to the public hearing.  The Ecumenical Christian Ministries is the only church or school within 400 feet of the proposed primary public entrance of the future hotel.
