TWO (2) ½ TON PICKUPS – B1138

Parks and Recreation requested bids for two ½ ton pickups.  These pickups will be used by the maintenance staff supervisors and the pickups they are presently using are rotated to the crews.  They will carry loads up to 1000 pounds of tools, grass seed, fertilizer, ice melt, and tables and chairs four to five times a week and will pull a small equipment trailer.  The pickups will be used off road one or two times a week.  They will replace units 590 and 571 which have high mileage and high maintenance costs.  These two units have been on the replacement list for the past three years.

Laird Noller Automotive’s bid is not within 1% of Shawnee Mission Ford’s bid, therefore the local preference policy does not apply. The final date to order 2011 model year trucks is 8/19/2011. The low bidder has agreed to order the trucks and will cancel them if this is not approved 08/23/2011. The dealer has until 08/26/2011 to cancel the order. If this purchase is not approved, staff will need to rebid the trucks as 2012 models.

This purchase was approved in the 2011 budgeting process.
