2. Discussion Item: 2013 Street Maintenance program:
David Cronin discussed the proposed projects for the 2013 Street Maintenance program.
· Bob Billings- Iowa to Crestline includes Shared Use Path construction that is consistent with the Bicycle System Map on the South side of the street because there are few driveways and property is owned by KU and they are paying for the installation of the SUP.
· Bob Billings- Crestline to Kasold includes a proposed Shared Use Path that will be built if there is sufficient funding to do so as part of this project.
· The Wakarusa at Bob Billings work will build the Bike Lanes as previously recommended by the BAC.
BAC members present asked Mr. Cronin if the 2nd Street and Michigan Street Mill and Overlay work could include signage for bike routes and/or sharrow markings since the right-of-way prevented bike lanes from being installed. This would connect the existing bike lanes on Michigan and the planned installation of bike lanes on Princeton. Mr. Cronin indicated these amenities would be investigated for feasibility with these projects.
BAC members present also asked if there was adequate right-of-way for bike lanes on 5th Street. Mr. Cronin indicated that 5th Street is a low volume local roadway where bike lane installation is undesirable and that the ROW isn’t sufficient.
3. Discussion Item: 2012 Bicycle and Pedestrian Counting Program
Jessica Mortinger shared the Lawrence Counts and memo sent to the City Manager.
4. Discussion Item: Multimodal Studies
Todd Girdler updated the BAC on the Multimodal Studies Projects. The MPO is currently in contract negotiations with a firm and the projects will be an MPO focus in 2013. The three studies include a Commuter Park & Ride Study, Fixed Route Transit and Pedestrian Accessibility Study, and a Countywide Bikeway System Plan. Todd asked the BAC members present if they thought an interactive map would be a desirable tool for public input on these studies and the members agreed that it would be good to have this tool in the contract.
5. Next Meeting: The BAC will reconvene in January 2013.
