The Building Safety Division issued 145 building permits in January, with total construction for the month valued at $16,887,920. Total permit fees assessed for the month were $107,210.80. Permits were issued for 19 new residential projects, including 8 new single-family dwellings and 11 apartment buildings with 264 dwelling units. Comparisons to previous years will be tracked throughout 2013 in the following table:

Permits were issued for three public projects in January, including modular units for temporary library offices at 700 New Hampshire with construction valued at $10,000; a sign for the temporary library facility valued at $1,200; and foundation repair and building system upgrades at the Lawrence Housing Authority apartments at 1600 Haskell valued at $46,126.
The highest valued project for January is an apartment complex at 5100 W 6th Street, with total valuation of $11,966,731. This project includes permits for 11 apartment buildings, a leasing office, and three garage accessory buildings. Staff also issued a permit for phase 1 of a project at Hallmark Cards, 101 McDonald Drive for building modifications valued at $600,000.
