Video playback features on website upgraded
Web Developer Chris Stringer completed an upgrade on the city’s website which allows residents to watch City Commission meetings using a Flash player instead of downloading the files to their computer. This new option is easier for residents to use. City Commission meeting videos are generally posted on Wednesday after the meeting on the city website at www.lawrenceks.org/agendas.
Daddy Daughter Date Night draws 135 participants
Lawrence Parks and Recreation recently held its 11th annual Daddy Daughter Date Night, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. More than 135 fathers and daughters were in attendance for the evening. Participants were encouraged to dress up for the Wizard of Oz themed dance. This year’s sponsors (Fuzzy’s Tacos, Sunflower Rental, Complete Music, Packerware and Owen’s Flower Shop) provided more than $1,500 in in-kind donations to defray program costs. 2012-2013 Hoopster Basketball season concludes
The Parks and Recreation Department offers both recreational and competitive youth basketball leagues. The competitive program, Hoopster Basketball, started its season on October 22, 2012 and concluded with the Hoopster championship on March 13 at the Community Building. A total of 37 teams participated in grades 2 through 6. Each team averaged 13 players, which totaled 481 youngsters participating in the program. Each team played a minimum of 15 games. There were 277 total Hoopster games played over the course of the season.
