RE:	Ordinance 8855

It has come to the attention of our office that an amendment to Section 89 of the Standard Traffic Ordinance is needed in order to correct a situation involving the use of accessible parking spaces.  It is sometimes necessary for users of such spaces to back their vehicles into a designated parking stall if the access aisle is blocked in order to allow the proper use of vehicle with an accessible lift/ramp.  The traffic code as it is currently written, does not allow for backing into a parking stall.

The attached Ordinance No. 8855 amends Chapter 17, Section 17-109.1 of the City Code to make this section inapplicable to parking stalls designated as accessible parking spaces.

Action Requested:

Adopt Ordinance No. 8855, amending Chapter 17, Section 17-109.1 of the Code of the City of Lawrence, KS.
