RE:

7 May 2013 City Commission Agenda Item

RESIDENT PARKING ONLY on Edgehill Road

Background

On April 1, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a proposal to establish RESIDENT PARKING ONLY along the north side of Edgehill Road, just east of Louisiana Street. The proposal referenced the history of parking problems for residents in the area and this solution was developed by city staff in consultation with adjacent residents.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, one (1) resident on Edgehill Road spoke in favor of the request and two (2) other members of the public indicated they were interested in the same type of restriction at other locations. No one spoke in opposition to the proposal. The Commission felt that there should be a single area for four (4) vehicles instead of two (2) separate areas for two (2) vehicles each; they were also concerned about this spreading throughout the city noting that two (2) of the individuals that spoke were interested in other areas. A motion to approve the proposal for a 6-month test period was approved unanimously by the Traffic Safety Commission, 8-0.

Action Request

Approve Traffic Safety Commission recommendation to establish a single 100 foot “Resident Parking Only” zone along the north side of Edgehill Road, just east of Louisiana, centered between 1647 and 1649 Edgehill Road for a six (6) month test period.
