RE: |
City Code amendments – Discharge of Firearms
|
On May 14, 2013, the City Commission received an update on Senate Substitute for House Bill 2052 pertaining to the changes in the concealed carry statutes. The legislation becomes effective July 1, 2013 upon its publication in the Kansas Statutes. This bill also made changes to law regarding the discharge of firearms inside city limits.
Section 1 of the bill prohibits the unlawful discharge of firearms within or into the corporate limits of the city. It also makes several exceptions to this prohibition. The City of Lawrence code has one section that will need amending in order to make the code compliant with this legislation. The attached Ordinance No. 8868 updates Chapter 14, section 14-407 of the City Code.
Action Requested:
Adopt on first reading Ordinance No. 8868 pertaining to the unlawful discharge of firearms in the City of Lawrence.
