Department of Labor Worker’s Compensation Assessment

 

Please place the following on the May 28, 2013 City Commission consent agenda:  Authorize payment of $19,512.19 to the Kansas Department of Labor for the 2014 worker’s compensation self-insured assessment.

 

Background

Each year, the State of Kansas Department of Labor assesses costs to every insurance carrier and self-insured entity in the state to cover operating costs of the Office of Worker’s Compensation and costs associated with administration of the Worker’s Compensation Act.  Assessments for 2014 are based on paid losses in the 2012 calendar year.  The computed amount for the city of Lawrence is $19,512.19.

 

The Kansas Department of Insurance also assesses self-insured entities.  That bill has not been received.

 

Recommendation

Staff recommends payment of $19,512.19 to the Kansas Department of Labor for the 2014 self-insured assessment.
