City Manager’s Report – Haskell Rail Trail TE program funding |
The City of Lawrence has been awarded funding to pave the existing Haskell Rail Trail from 23rd Street to 29th Street through the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) Transportation Enhancement (TE) program. KDOT has approved federal funds for 80% of the project construction and construction engineering costs up to $218,838.
The existing Haskell Rail Trail was the first operational rail trail in the state of Kansas. This project would improve the surface to a 10 foot wide 6" thick fiber reinforced Shared Use Path on top of the existing limestone screening surface trail. It will add connectivity to Lawrence's existing trail network by connecting to the Burroughs Creek Rail Trail to the north and the proposed South Lawrence Trafficway Trail to the south that will be constructed along with the South Lawrence Trafficway.
