RE: |
11 June 2013 City Commission Agenda Item 40MPH SPEED LIMIT on Peterson Road |
Background
On May 6, 2013, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to establish a 40MPH SPEED LIMIT on Peterson Road between Kasold Drive and Monterey Way. The current speed limit in this area is 35mph. Traffic data obtained on April 24-25, 2013, found approximately 5515 vehicles in a 24-hour period at an 85th percentile speed of approximately 45mph.
Traffic Safety Commission Action
At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, one (1) resident spoke in favor of the request noting that this would be consistent with Peterson Road between Iowa Street and Kasold Drive. No one spoke in opposition to the request. It was noted that both sections of Peterson Road are classified as an “arterial” street and are constructed three (3) lanes wide with a sidewalk along the south side of the street and an off-road shared-use path along the north side of the street. A motion to recommend a 40MPH SPEED LIMIT on Peterson Road between Kasold Drive and Monterey Way was unanimously approved by the Traffic Safety Commission, 7-0.
Action Request
It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission, if appropriate.
