RE:               Purchase of Stump Grinding Machine

Please include the following item on the next available City Commission agenda:

Description

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests approval to purchase a new stump grinding machine. This will replace our current 20 year old unit that has a ceased engine. A new cutter machine would be used by forestry, landscape, and park district crews for removal of large to very large stumps in the parks, right of way, and at public buildings.  This new piece of equipment will be purchased using pricing from a cooperative purchasing agreement with the National Joint Powers Alliance. The vendor will be Vermeer Great Plains in Olathe, Kansas. The purchase price, including trade-in of the existing unit, is $42,705.

Funding

Funds are available for this purchase using a combination of budgeted General Fund and Special Recreation Funds

Action Request

Authorize the purchase of a Vermeer stump grinding machine from Vermeer Great Plains in Olathe, Kansas at a purchase price of $42,705
