Three permits were issued for public projects in June, including a permit for installation of Compressed Natural Gas vehicle fueling equipment at 1120 Haskell valued at $93,000; a permit for replacement of HVAC equipment at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr, valued at $5,350; and a permit for office renovation at City Hall, 6 E 6th Street, valued at $4,500.
The highest valued project for the month is for renovation work valued at $350,000 at 745 New Hampshire to convert space into a convenience store/sandwich shop.
These statistics are of interest in tracking construction activity in the community, but only partially tell the story for staff workload and performance. Staff has established performance goals of completing “initial” reviews for residential permits within 5 business days and for commercial permits within 15 business days of the application date. An initial review is a comprehensive first review of an application and plans for a building project, and may include review work performed by staff from Planning and Development Services, Fire Prevention Division, Utilities, Public Works Departments and other relevant review agencies depending on the nature and scope of the project. Initial and subsequent reviews and comments are tracked in the Innoprise permit tracking system from which reports may be extracted. Development Services staff is responsible for coordinating review work and disseminating review comments to applicants. In June, staff completed 156 of 182 (85.7%) residential reviews within 5 business days, and 148 of 150 (98.6%) commercial reviews within 15 business days. The following table tracks performance in meeting these objectives.
