Project Description: With the acquisition of the former Farmland Industries Nitrogen Plant site came the maintenance cost associated with the two existing above ground storage tanks on the site. The redevelopment work at the site has removed the existing perimeter fence along 23rd Street due to necessary site grading. As a result the site is easily accessible raising safety and security concerns associated with the tall storage tanks. Staff believes that it is prudent to construct a safety/security fence around each of the above ground storage tanks. This will help to prevent individuals from climbing on the tanks as well as prevent the theft of copper wire from the electrical systems used for pumping the tanks.
Project Funding: The engineers estimate for the cost of the project was estimated to be $30,000. The project is being funded with the environmental remediation fund obtained with the acquisition of the site and has been approved by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment.
Action Request: Approve the award of the bid to "Construct Safety/Security Fence around the perimeter of the two above ground storage tanks" (PW1334) on the former Farmland Industries Plant site in the amount of $29,242.00 to AmeriFence provided they meet the requirements of the signed contract.
