Executive Summary: |
This request is part of a revision to an approved Final Development Plan for phase 4 of the Alvamar Planned Development. Phase 4 includes the amenities for the mixed-use development and specifically includes the indoor and outdoor pools, recreation building, and indoor golf practice buildings for the club members and for the University of Kansas golf teams.
Section 20-1009 (b) allows the use of synthetic turf only when approved by the City Commission in accordance with Section 18-403 of the City Code. The use of synthetic turf shall be permitted if it is of “limited, small-scale use” per Section 18-403 (B)(i) and approved by the City Commission. The proposed application shows a 10’ wide strip of synthetic turf along the north side of the Alvamar Practice Facility and a 15’ wide strip along the north side of the University Golf Practice Facility. There are no other areas, within this development, proposed for the use of the synthetic turf. Staff finds that this application of synthetic turf is reasonable on the golf course and in this quantity.
