Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

 

Approve the purchase of nine (9) new paratransit vehicles (T-Lift) from Kansas Truck Equipment, Co., in the amount of $621,000, utilizing the existing Kansas Department of Transportation state bid.

 

Executive Summary:

As mandated under the American’s with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Lawrence Transit provides complementary paratransit service under the name T-Lift. The smaller vehicles used to provide this service are lift equipped and fully accessible. The useful life of these small vehicles is defined by the Federal Transit Administration as either five (5) years or 100,000 miles. Currently Lawrence Transit has nine (9) vehicles that have surpassed both the year and mileage threshold for useful life.

Fiscal Impact (Amount/Source):

The fiscal impact to the City is $621,000. This item was in the 2017 Public Transit budget and 2017 CIP for the acquisition of fixed route buses. Due to the long lead time for the manufacture of fixed route buses we will be utilizing these funds for paratransit vehicles instead.
