Authorize the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the Haskell Indian Nations University concerning communication and efforts to help combat crimes against students. |

|
Executive Summary: |
Haskell Indian Nations University (Haskell) requests that the Lawrence Police Department (LPD) participate in a Memorandum of Understating (MOU), similar to an existing MOU between the City and the University of Kansas. The MOU is a necessary component for a federal grant Haskell seeks through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). Haskell and the City of Lawrence have a rich history of cooperation, and City staff believes that entering into this MOU can help strengthen support to the university, its students, and staff.
The grant Haskell University will be applying for helps to develop the We Are Haskell program to grow specific strategies and projects for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking from underserved populations on campus.
City Staff, including staff from the LPD, have reviewed the MOU. |
