Authorize the Mayor to sign a letter to EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt with 240 other mayors from U.S. Cities and territories, urging him to reconsider his actions to dismantle the Clean Power Plan.

Executive Summary:

Mayor Boley and the Lawrence City Commission have been invited to sign a comment letter written by the Climate Mayors to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt, urging him to reconsider actions to dismantle the Clean Power Plan. The comment letter was originally submitted to the EPA on February 20, 2018 with 233 signatories. An updated letter with additional signatures will be submitted on or before the end of the EPA’s Power Plan comment period on April 26, 2018.

 

Climate Mayors, founded in 2014, is a bipartisan, peer-to-peer network of U.S. mayors working together to demonstrate leadership on climate change through meaningful actions in their communities, and to express and build political will for effective federal and global policy action. Members represent 400 cities with a combined total of over 69 million Americans. Climate Mayors membership is open to U.S. mayors pursuing actions to achieve emission reductions targets.
