Approve 2018 Community Arts Grants as recommended by the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission
Executive Summary:		The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission’s Community Arts Grant program began in 1995 with the expressed purpose of providing grant funds intended for projects or special community art-related ventures with a particular focus on encouraging the arts within the Lawrence community.  Since the Community Arts Grant program inception, the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission has provided grant funding totaling approximately $173,000 to over 164 organizations and artists. This year, the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission’s 24th Annual Community Arts Grant recommendations were selected based on criteria derived from the City-Wide Cultural Plan. A total of seventeen applications representing requests for $72,946 were submitted.  After the eligible Cultural Arts Commissioners reviewed each grant and provided their preliminary scores individually, the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission deliberated at its March 14, 2018 meeting and unanimously agreed to recommend to the City Commission approval for the following 2018 Community Arts Grants: Lied Center, Theater on a Spectrum - $4,000 Nick Carswell, Echoes Through a Green Space - $2,000 Van Go Inc., Benchmark 2018 - $4,000 Spencer Museum of Art, The Ties that Bind exhibition - $4,000 Kansas Public Radio, KPR Live Day - $3,500 Lawrence Arts Center, Rethink: I Am a Veteran - $2,500 Lawrence Library, Dinner and a Movie - $2,000 Art Tougeau Parade - $3,000 Total: $25,000

Fiscal Impact (Amount/Source):		The fiscal impact to the City is $25,000.  This item was in the 2018 budget.
