Initiate a text amendment to the City of Lawrence Land Development Code and define certain types of storage uses; mini-warehouse, self-storage, climate controlled self-storage and similar uses and to amend Article 4 Use tables, Article 17 definitions, Article 9 Off-Street Parking and Article 5 Use Regulations if applicable. |

|
Executive Summary: |
On March 20, 2018, the City Commission approved Z-17-00689 with direction to review the mini-warehouse use in the code and determine if the use is appropriate in the IBP zoning district.
Mini-Warehouse use is defined in the Land Development Code as a subcategory of Wholesale, Storage, and Distribution. The current definition does not distinguish between types of mini-warehouse uses such as interior, climate controlled self- storage facilities and conventional exterior access storage facilities access individually from the exterior of each unit.
This use is currently permitted in the CC, CR, CS, IL, and IG districts. There are no design standards that are associated with this use. The City of Lawrence is experiencing a growth in mini-warehouse use to include requests for zoning changes to allow climate controlled and other types of mini-warehouse uses.
If initiated, specific code language will be developed and submitted to the planning Commission for a recommendation.
