Adopt on first reading, Ordinance No. 9456, designating Louisiana Street within the corporate limits of the city as a major or main trafficway, and repealing existing Chapter XVII, Article 5, section 17-501 of the Code of the City of Lawrence.

Executive Summary:

This summer the City is reconstructing Louisiana Street between 12th Street and 13th Street (CIP# PW18E8). The project will reconstruct Louisiana Street with concrete pavement, upgrade storm sewer systems, replace watermains, and replace sidewalks. The project is being constructed concurrently with the Oread Water Tank replacement project. The University of Kansas (KU) will also be reconstructing the final section of Jayhawk Boulevard and their storm sewer will tie into the Louisiana Street storm sewer system. KU will be contributing $100,000 for upgrades to the Louisiana Street storm sewer system.  The city street reconstruction will be funded with $350,000 in General Obligation Bonds. The adoption of Ordinance No. 9456 allows the city to issue debt for the improvements to be completed.
