Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

Adopt Resolution No. 7247, amending the scope of the projects adopted with Resolution No. 7240 and authorizing the issuance of general obligation bonds in the amount of $520,000.00

Executive Summary:

Resolution No. 7240, adopted February 6, 2018, authorized the city to issue bonds for the replacement of the roof at the Lawrence Arts Center (CIP# PW18B2) and replacement of the fire alarm and halon systems, access control and carpet at City Hall (CIP# PW18B5) in an amount not to exceed $520,000.  After review of the planned work to be completed by this resolution at the Arts Center, the bids received provided a cost savings of $293,758.

Staff is recommending utilizing the savings from the Arts Center roof replacement project to fund the replacement of the boilers.  The boilers are original to the Arts Center and have reached the end of their useful life.  Monthly maintenance is necessary to keep these units operational.  The replacement of these units has been identified as a critical need and will reduce maintenance costs.  Additional savings in energy costs will be realized from the improved efficiencies of the new units.  Resolution No. 7247 amends Resolution No. 7240 to include the boiler replacement at the Lawrence Arts Center.
