I. Meeting called to order by Humphrey
II. Approval of March 13, 2018, minutes by Hack, and seconded by Blazek.
III. Highlights/Concerns
Hack discussed the tobacco-free signs being not being visible at the dog park.
Blazek mentioned the positive move of the KGA office at EBGC.
IV. Review and Approval of Bylaws
Tabled the discussion
V. Board Meeting Times
Tabled the discussion, motion by Hack, seconded by Blazek.
VI. Aquatic Admission Fees
Discussion was held regarding the aquatics fees. Daily rate admission fee was last raised 10 years ago. Moved and seconded to support a two-phased aquatics daily admission fee increase of $1 effective May 1, 2018, and a subsequent $1 increase effective January 1, 2020, and change the age range for the Child Daily Admission rate from 5-17 years of age to 3-17 years of age. Vote carried 3-0
VII. Budget presentation
2019 budget proposal has been submitted. Have a consultant coming in to work on a cost recovery program. Comprehensive Master Plan mentioned increasing hourly wages on part-time staff.
Discussion held to increase cemetery fees. Last fee increase in 2008. Humphrey motion to show support of the proposed cemetery funding fee increase, seconded by Blazek. Vote carried 3-0.
South Park playground – CIP item for this year. Put out a request for proposal, each valued at $90,000. Every playground now has to have a wheelchair transition out. Current swings will stay.
Lawrence loop signage for mileage markers on the trail, every half-mile as well as directional signs. Going to mark the individual trails.
VIII. Public Comment – Explore Lawrence excited about the bike share program. Requesting that the Visitor’s Center be considered as a receptacle spot. Rogers mentioned the City is working on an agreement to expand the bikeshare program within the city. He said it was currently only on the KU campus.
