Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:   Over the past five years, each day ninety-three Americans have been killed by gun violence and more than two hundred Americans have sustained non-fatal firearm injuries; and

WHEREAS:   Protecting public safety in the communities they serve is one of the highest responsibilities of City government; and

WHEREAS:   By wearing orange on June 2, Americans will raise awareness about gun violence and honor the lives stolen by gun violence.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Stuart Boley, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Saturday, June 2, 2018 to be

“national gun violence awareness day”

in the City of Lawrence and encourage all citizens to support their local communities’ efforts to prevent the tragic effects of gun violence and to honor and value human lives.
