Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

 

Accept a Historic Preservation Fund Grant administered by the Kansas Historical Society for a historic resources survey of a portion of the Barker Neighborhood.

 

Executive Summary:

The City of Lawrence has been awarded a Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) grant to hire a consultant to conduct a survey and produce a building inventory and summary of findings for a portion of the Barker Neighborhood - from New Hampshire Street on the west to Barker Avenue on the east, and from 15th Street on the north to 23rd Street on the south. The objective of the project is the identification and evaluation of historic resources in this area of the city.

 

The City Commission authorized the submission of the grant on March 6, 2018.

 

The grant is administered by the Kansas Historical Society with monies provided by the National Park Service. The total project cost is $26,530. The grant will pay 60%, $15,900, for a consultant and the city match will be staff salaries. Staff commitment is for grant administration, assistance with public meetings, and some coordination of GIS mapping.
