Executive Summary: |
In September 2017 the City received notice from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) that the application the City submitted for the Transportation Alternatives (TA) program was awarded funds. The City will receive $394,128 from KDOT with a twenty percent (20%) local match ($78,825) to design and construct sidewalk gaps on safe routes to school. The City has budgeted $100,000 for matching funds and project contingency.
The TA program is administered by KDOT and provides funding for programs and projects including pedestrian and bicycle facilities, scenic and environmental, historic preservation, and Safe Routes to School (SRTS). The vision of the program is to create safe, accessible, attractive, and environmentally-sensitive communities where people want to live, work and engage in recreational activities. The minimum local match is twenty percent (20%) of the project and the remaining eighty percent (80%) are federal funds administered by KDOT. The local match will be funded with 2017/2018 bicycle/pedestrian funds (CI09).
The City has identified six (6) project locations for new sidewalks to be constructed along existing identified SRTS. The project scope includes the design of 5-ft wide sidewalk along the streets identified below as safe routes to school. The project will also include the design of ADA ramps, retaining walls, and concrete driveway replacements, as necessary, to achieve ADA compliance.
This grant will fund the following Safe Routes to School project Locations:
