Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:   The Lawrence Housing Authority was established by the Lawrence City Commission on July 9, 1968, and over the past fifty years has constructed and operated affordable housing for low income households; and

 

WHEREAS:   In 1983, the Douglas County Housing Authority was formed to provide Section 8 rental assistance in the rural areas of the county, which was operated by the Lawrence Housing Authority through Cooperative Agreement; and

 

WHEREAS:   In 2000 the Douglas County Housing Authority was merged into the Lawrence Housing Authority to form the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority; and

 

WHEREAS:   The Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority will be hosting a 50th Anniversary Celebration to commemorate the remarkable impact affordable housing has made in our community, and to honor the individuals who made this progress possible; and

 

WHEREAS:   The public is invited to attend this Celebration, which will be held at Babcock Place on July 12, 2018 between 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Stuart Boley, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Thursday, July 12, 2018 as

 

Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority Day

 

and urge the citizens of this community to celebrate the 50 years of service that the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority has provided to the community.
