Meeting called to order 2:34 pm.
First item of business was to approve minutes from the May 2nd, 2018 meeting. Chris Cunningham moved to approve minutes as written, Seconded by Greg Rau. Motion passed 5-0.
The Board then began discussion of the significant changes to the International Existing Building Code.
The Board was all in agreement that 405.2.1.1, regarding snow damage, was a good addition to the code.
Smalter said that she would like to table discussion on storm shelters in Group E additions until Kurt Schroeder could speak to the board about the amendment that was part of a compromise with the City of Lawrence and the local school districts regarding storm shelters in schools.
Smalter said we would then review this amendment in September with all other current amendments.
Smalter noted that in IEBC sections 505.4 and 701.4, verbiage has been added to the code that is basically the same as in the IRC and IBC regarding emergency escape and rescue openings.
Smalter added this would be something the Board would want to discuss with Brian Jimenez, Code Enforcement Manager, when he reviews the Property Maintenance Code with the BCBOA.
Brunin said the section 506.4 was a good modification to the code and the two exceptions would be useful to designers.
Smalter said the next meeting would be July 11th with the location to be determined.
Smalter said next meeting would be review of the International Energy Conservation Code. Adrian Jones will provide some input on the IECC. Smalter said the representatives from the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Boards would also be on hand to update the BCBOA on their review.
Cunningham said he would like the Board to consider amendments to bathroom design requirements in the IBC. Cunningham noted that other locations around the country allow shared bathroom facilities.
Smalter said that different municipalities have interpreted this section of code very differently.
Cunningham said he would research this issue more before the next meeting and it would be an agenda item.
Stogsdill asked when we would do a final review of all amendments.
Smalter said September.
Markley made a motion to adjourn, Seconded by Brunin. Passed 5-0.
