Executive Summary: |
The City Commission adopted on first reading at its August 7, 2018 meeting Ordinance 9522, which adopts the “2018 Standard Traffic Ordinance, Edition 2018.” Staff learned on August 14, 2018 that the League of Kansas Municipalities inadvertently omitted notice that Section 81 was amended. A letter from the Kansas League of Municipalities addressing this omission is attached.
Section 81 adds fines for offenses related to improperly overtaking and passing a school bus. The updated STO states that on a first conviction of overtaking and passing a school bus the penalty is $315. Upon a second conviction within the previous five years, the penalty increases to $750. For a third conviction within the previous five years, the penalty increases to $1,000. This update should be included with all other updates outlined in the August 7, 2018 cover memo. |
