2. Review Minutes

Review Minutes from June 28, 2018.

Myers moved to approve the minutes from June 28, 2018. Second by Wessell. Motion passed 6-0.

3. Review of 2017 National Electrical Code and electrical provisions of 2018 International Residential Code.

The Board discussed the current amendment to Article 210.52 (C) (4). The current amendment removes the exemption of 12” of countertop space from requiring an outlet.

It was to prevent narrow appliances from being set on the countertop space that did not have access to an outlet. Stilley noted a deep fat fryer or similar type appliance could easily be set on such a small space.

Delfelder said he agreed that the amendment provided an extra level of safety but questioned the number of sections of the code that could be improved would result in too many amendments making it difficult for out of town contractors.

The Board determined to carry the amendment forward in the 2017 NEC and 2018 IRC.

The Board discussed the current amendments to 210.52 (C) (5) and 210.52 (D) striking the informational notes referring to Article 406.5 (E).

Hethcoat said the reason the note was deleted was there was no 406.5 (E) in the 2014 NEC.

Myers observed the 2017 NEC corrected the error and therefore the informational notes were applicable.

Myers moved to not carry the amendment forward to the 2017 NEC and 2018 IRC.  Seconded by Delfelder. Motion passed 6-0.

The Board discussed the current amendment to Article 210.52 (G) (1). The amendment requires an outlet to be installed in a specific location for each vehicle entry door to provide a receptacle for a garage door opener.

Jones said it was a good amendment and there were not any enforcement issues.

The Board determined to carry the amendment forward in the 2017 NEC and 2018 IRC.

The Board discussed the current amendment to Article 225.17 (B). The amendment requires masts that support overhead conductors to be galvanized steel.

The Board determined to carry the amendment forward in the 2017 NEC and 2018 IRC.

The Board discussed the current amendment to Article 230.43. The amendment prohibits the use of service entrance cables as a wiring method for service entrance conductors.

Jones said the amendment was for protection of the cable. The amendment has been carried forward for numerous code cycles.

The Board determined to carry the amendment forward in the 2017 NEC and 2018 IRC.

The Board discussed the current amendment to Article 230.70 (A) (1). The amendment clarifies the code language and sets a limit on the length of service entrance conductors.

The Board determined to carry the amendment forward in the 2017 NEC and 2018 IRC.

The Board discussed the current amendment to 250.68 (A). An amendment which requires the location of the connection to the grounding electrode to be permanently identified by a plaque or directory at the service disconnect.

Hethcoat said he believes the more equipment that is properly labeled and identified the better it provided for an extra level of safety and helped eliminate uncertainty.

The Board determined to carry the amendment forward in the 2017 NEC and 2018 IRC.

Stilley moved to adjourn. Seconded by Hethcoat.  Meeting adjourned 12:00 pm.
