Aviation Advisory Board Meeting

May 17, 2018 Minutes

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:

Richard Haig, Bill Ackerly, Jonathan Becker, Dan Born, Gary Knudsen, and Cheri Thompson

MEMBERS ABSENT:

Richard Haig, and Jeff Long

STAFF PRESENT:

Chuck Soules

PUBLIC PRESENT:

Lloyd Hetrick (Hetrick Aviation), Rick Bryant (ADG), Mark Ewing (KU), Ron Rentz, Brooklynne Mosley, Michael Kelly, and Don Kinney  

Absent:

Jeff Long

 

I.      Call to Order:

Richard Haig called the meeting to order at 6:35 P.M.

 

II.       Introductions of New Board Members

 

III.     Approval of Minutes of March 8, 2018 Meeting:

Minutes were approved.

      

IV.      Public Comment:                 

     None

    

V.        KU UAS Report:

Mark Ewing provided an update to the status of KU Aerospace’s request to the FAA to allow for UAS flights at the airport.

 

VI.      Taxiway C and Apron Repairs:

Received good bids for the Taxiway C and Apron projects.   Projected start date is 7/9/18 with a project length of 30 days.  Tenants on the west side will move over to east side for access during construction.

 

VII.    Fence Update:

Wildlife fence is complete, though some sterilant spray and seeding still to be done in the next week.   Gates may need to be upgraded to move towards more security but that is an issue for the future.  Four 14’ swinging gates are built into the fence for City maintenance.  There is 5’ of fence below ground.  Final inspection in about 3 weeks.  Gates access and orientation need to be update with EMS, Police & Fire and Airport Development Group and with their hazmat exercise that is coming up.

 

VIII. Kids Camp:

Aviation Youth Camp is full for 30 registrants this next week. 

 

IX.     FBO Report:

Lloyd Hetrick told about KU ROTC with Chinook and a Blackhawk last weekend. 

 

X.        Other Business:

New officers will be elected at next board meeting which will focus on KOMA and by-laws.

 

Richard Haig noted that Cheri Thompson, Gary Knudsen and Jonathan Becker were completing their terms and on behalf of the other members he thanked them for their dedication and service.        

 

Bill Ackerly asked for an update on skydiving.   The City is trying to schedule a visit to an airport that has skydiving to observe how the operation is conducted.  Bill Ackerly and others want to go with City Staff.

 

XI.    Next Meeting:

Set for June 14, 2018.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
