SUBJECT:

Cooperative Agreement Concerning Fire Medical Department Medical Director

Dr. Caleb Trent has served as the Medical Director the past three years.  Dr. Trent has always been readily available when needed and has been involved in advancing Douglas County forward in emergency medicine.  After review of several like sized services it has been found that the current prescribed salary is well below the average.

Dr. Trent’s role has evolved since starting with Douglas County. Added duties now include regular scheduled meetings with the Division Chief of EMS, quarterly protocol review and increased QA/QI program involvement. In the past year, Dr. Trent has been requested for many extra hours of service beyond the years past.

·         Implementation and creation of the new Cardiac Arrest Protocol for Excellence (C.A.P.E.);

·         7% medical call increase in the county which involves higher QA/QI review processes;

·         Advanced protocol review, maintenance and revision.

Recommendations:

Dr. Trent’s current annual compensation is $18,000 and paid in 12 monthly payments of $1500.00. In the previous section the annual compensation for like-sized, like-workload EMS System Medical Directors dictates the request for the following salary increase for Dr. Trent in 2018 and 2019.

With the increased compensation Dr. Trent will have the ability to provide extended time commitments allowing for more time for in the EMS Quality Assurance program, crew interactions while on emergency incidents, outreach to the county first responders and continue EMS training.
