Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:
Receive presentation on proposal to amend the penalties for possession of marijuana.
Executive Summary:		The commission expressed a desire to discuss a proposal to modify the penalties for possession of marijuana in certain circumstances.  At the Commission’s work session on October 9, 2018, Laura Green will make a presentation to the Commission and will recommend changes to our current penalty provisions.  She has indicated that she will discuss a Wichita, Kansas ordinance.  Dan Partridge, Director of the Douglas County Health Department, also plans to address the Commission briefly.  Staff from the City Attorney’s Office will provide an overview of the current state and local laws, municipal court operations, and a discussion of the City’s ability to legislate in this area.
