Waste Reduction and Recycling Activities
Mollie Mangerich, WRR Operations Supervisor, will update the Commission on the activities in this division of the Public Works Department.

Bruce Flanders will present an overview of the activities of the Lawrence Public Library and accomplishments during 2003.

KDOT Funding KDOT Correspondence
On July 8, 2003, the City Commission approved the submission of funding applications to KDOT for KLINK Resurfacing, Economic Development, and Geometric Improvements. The City submitted the following projects:
o KLINK – 6th Street, Arkansas to Massachusetts, milling, overlay, pavement marking.
o Economic Development – 23rd Street, Iowa to Louisiana, consolidation of access points per the adopted 23rd Street Corridor Study
o Geometric Improvements – widening of 6th Street ot 5 lanes between Folks Road and Monterey Way.
Per the attached letters, KDOT has selected the KLINK project on 6th Street and the Economic Development project on 23rd Street for funding. Staff plans to begin the consultant selection process for the design of the Economic Development improvements along 23rd Street. City engineering staff will prepare the plans for the KLINK project on West 6th Street.

Downtown Landscape Projects
Responding to interest and discussion with Commissioner Schauner and working with Downtown Lawrence, the Parks and Recreation Department, Horticulture Division has plans for enhanced beautification of downtown planters. During the last three years, over 100 diseased trees have been removed from planters and adjacent parking lots downtown. Department staff will start planting flowers in the planters during the week of May 17th. Another downtown landscape project involves replacing damaged hedges in various parking lots.
