Holcom Park Projects

Over the past 8-10 months, staff in the Parks and Rec Department has completed a number of improvement projects in Holcom Park:

 

New Park Restroom

Overlay of the North Parking Lot

Resurface of the Tennis Courts

Resurface of the Basketball Courts

New tot swings added to playground

New border added around the playground

New sidewalk from the shelter to the restroom

Corrected the drainage on Holcom Blue Diamond

New Backstop on Holcom Red Diamond

  

 

Transit Development

Karin Rexroad, Public Transit Administrator, attended the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Transportation and University Communities Conference June 26th through 29th in Austin, TX.  The conference provided dual track sessions on planning and programs, funding strategies, emerging technologies, unlimited access services, safety and security as well as building partnerships.  The educational sessions offered enlightening views on the opportunities and trends facing today’s universities and transportation systems.

 

Finding It On The Web

A new feature has been added to www.lawrenceks.org.  Quick links, the ability to view a drop down menu and select a frequently visited web page has been added to the City News section of the web site.  Matt Bunyard, Web Development Intern, completed the programming.  City News is incorporated in several city web sites to provide updated city information and a connection to other city issues.

 

Airport News

Ron Renz with Alligator, Inc., a tenant at the Lawrence Municipal Airport, has arranged for his company to sponsor a Van Go Mobile Arts bench.  The bench will be placed this month at the terminal building of the airport.

 

Salvation Army CDBG Allocation Extension   Staff Memo

The attached memo from Margene Swarts, Community Development Manager, summarizes the activities surrounding a recent extension by the NRAC of the CDBG grant that was allocated ruing the 2001 funding year.

 

GPS Test Site Update   Staff Memo

Karin Rexroad, Public Transit Administrator, provides an update on the project using paratransit vehicles as test vehicles for a Global Positioning System product developed by Kantronics.

 

Rainfall Event Report   Performance Report

The attached report provides information related to the July 2, 2004 rain event and the impact on the wastewater collection system.  The responders to the events listed in this report included staff from the Utilities Department Collection System Division, supervised by Jim Stuit, Field Operations Superintendent.
