Re:     timetable for code adoption process

Please place the following item on the consent agenda for the City Commission to approve at their April 12, 2005 meeting:

Timetable for Building Code Adoption Process

Attached please find an estimated timetable for the various advisory boards to review and bring forward new code adoption recommendations to the City Commission.

Background

Pursuant to City Commission direction given at their March 1, 2005 meeting, staff is to bring (via ordinances) the following codes for adoption:

· 2003 International Residential Code

· 2003 Uniform Mechanical Code

· 2003 Uniform Plumbing Code

· 2005 National Electric Code

· 2003 International Building Code

· 2003 International Fire Code

Additionally, at their March 15, 2005 meeting, the City Commission directed staff to initiate a review of the International Energy Conservation Code in a manner that would be concurrent or subsequent to the review of the International Building Code.

Current Status

Staff has developed the attached schedule with estimates of the process involved in reviewing the relevant codes, reconciling cross references between the international codes and the uniform codes, and completing draft ordinances for City Commission action.

Action Request

Staff requests that the City Commission receive this timetable for completing the building code adoption process.  Staff will be prepared to provide periodic updates on the progress of the advisory board review process in future City Manager Reports.
