Date: April 25, 2005
Please place the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at their May 3, 2005 meeting:
Set Bid Date for Airport Improvement Project:
The attached letter from FAA provides notification that the bid package for the partial parallel taxiway project at the Lawrence Municipal Airport has been approved. To that end, we are seeking action from the City Commission to set a bid opening date for the project.
Project Background
The construction of a partial parallel taxiway to runway 1-19 is a capital improvement project that is in the City’s Capital Improvement Budget as well as the airport’s master plan. This project will insure the first phase of providing safe access to runway 1-19.
The total project estimate is as follows:
construct partial parallel taxiway 530,850
replace MILR and MITL 147,200
TOTAL $ 814,230
*Note – it is our intent to provide the on-site inspection services for this project utilizing Public Works staff. FAA will reimburse the City for these activities.
Project Funding
This project is eligible for federal grant funding via FAA entitlement and discretionary funds. The FAA grant will fund 95% and the City will be responsible for 5%. Bonding authority for this project was established via Resolution 6311, adopted by the City Commission May 2, 2001 for this and other previously completed airport improvement projects.
Commission Action
This project has been discussed and is recommended by the Aviation Advisory Board. We are seeking approval from the City Commission to set a bid opening date of Tuesday, May 24, 2005.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
