Public Transit System News
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has recognized Lawrence Transit System with successfully completing the National Transit Database (NTD) 2004 Report. According to Cliff Galante, Public Transit Administrator, Lawrence Transit System’s NTD Report was free of any discrepancies or deficiencies. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) collects and disseminates data on the state of mass transportation via the National Transit Database (NTD) program. Over 600 of the nation's transportation providers submit data to NTD annually. Both the public and private sectors use this data to assess the current state of mass transit and plan for the future.
The National Transit Database (NTD) Annual Report consists of the Data Tables, Transit Profiles and National Transit Summaries and Trends. The comprehensive report covers all aspects of transit activities including:
o Basic organizational and transit service information
o Number of vehicles operated by mode and type of service
o Capital improvements for modes of service not yet in operation
o Contractual agreements with transit agencies filing their own NTD reports
o Size of the urbanized area
o Identify key personnel at the transit agency for NTD reports and/or communication
o Buyers and Sellers of purchased transportation services
o Key financial and operating data for the purchased service

Online Enrollment Increases
Ernie Shaw, Recreation Superintendent with the Parks and Recreation Department, reports that on-line enrollment for fall classes continues to increase. So far this year, 59% of enrollees are submitting their requests on-line, up from 55% in 2004 and 37% in 2003, the first year of the program. Shaw cites convenience for the public and a user-friendly website as the main reasons for the increase in usage.
