FTA Award for Transit

The Lawrence Transit System has received and Award of Achievement from the Federal Transit Administration Region VII for the “Highest Percentage Increase in Ridership in the Kansas Urban Transit Program for fiscal year 2003-2004.”  This achievement is noteworthy in that this is the second consecutive year the City’s Transit System has received this honor.  So far this year ridership is up 16% over the prior year and the City’s transit system may be considered for future awards.  A steady increase in ridership provides a strong indication that citizens are adopting the benefits of public transportation and that our education and public outreach efforts are effective.  Furthermore, with rising fuel costs we would expect ridership to continue to increase as recent statistics indicate.
