Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

Award Bid No. B1804, for the City/KU Fiber Redundancy Project to the low bidder, Rylie Equipment and Contracting Co., in the amount of $198,397.50, and approve the City Manager signing Addendums #3 and #4 with the University of Kansas (KU).

Executive Summary:

The City and KU have a Memorandum of Understanding Agreement to cooperate on fiber projects together and have successfully collaborated on previous projects.  Bid No. B1804 allows both the City and KU to have redundant Internet connectivity, and for the City to complete a network ring for the Utilities Department connecting the City’s two wastewater plants together, for the Utilities SCADA network and the City’s network backbone.  This redundancy is needed by both the City and KU as Another City / KU project involving the pedestrian tunnels under 19th & Iowa could potentially cause network interruptions for both the City and KU.  The City will own and manage the fiber in the right-of-way.

On July 17, 2018, the City of Lawrence opened proposals Bid No. B1804 and the low base bidder was Rylie Equipment & Contracting Co.
